China best U.S. in virtual world!
When I visited the site of CNN.com, this news was the first news that had cought my attention.
“It is similar to (World of) Warcraft, but the game adds more Chinese elements into it so I feel more connected to it,”
this is a statement coming from certain Beijing sales manager named Wang Min said that he indeed spend at least 15 hours a week playing online video games.
His favorite is a multiplayer adventure game called “Perfect World.”
“Perfect World” is free to play, but Wang spends about $44 every month on virtual extras such as additional points, new equipment and even outfits for his avatars.
We may consider that U.S. consumers may still be the world’s top shoppers, but when it comes to the growing economy of the virtual world Chinese buyers like Wang are leading the way.
The research firms estimate the purchase of virtual goods in China reached roughly $5 billion in 2009 — about five times more than the United States.
…
I really find this article surprising. I thought Chinese would not spend more time and much of their incomes just to avail virtual games. I am used of believing that U.S. is the home of the world’s largest virtual addicts, however, I was corrected with China’s potential of coming bigger not only in their population size but also when it comes to virtual world.
One reason why they bested U.S. is that, their games have the touch of their own culture, of their society, of their norms. I’m just wondering, We Filipinos have already this kind of internet games, portraying Filipino attributes, however, it feels like we don’t want to avail and purchase games that would benefit our land. Well, we are blinded of imports not of important things within us.
Just wanna say congratulations China!
and wake up Philippines… haha
